arjunraj is a filmmaker, multimodal anthropologist and educator with a M.A. in Visual Anthropology from University of Münster, currently working as a Doctoral Researcher at the University of Hamburg, Germany. arjunraj’s work lies at the intersection of collaborative storytelling and embodied cinema exploring how people and communities narrate their lived experiences under conditions of marginalization, and how storytelling can become a collective and transformative act, particularly for those often spoken for, or spoken over. Over the years, arjunraj has developed a storytelling methodology called Körperkino – Embodied Cinema, which invites participants to tell stories with someone while telling their own stories through and with their bodies. In my practice, arjunraj works closely with trans* communities, queer kinships, and multispecies networks, often working in museums, culture & creative industries and academic institutions to examine questions of representation, belonging, and resistance. arjunraj has been supported by fellowships from the Robert Bosch Stiftung, Berlin Senate, and CIRCE, and regularly teaches decolonial filmmaking and collaborative storytelling in workshop settings to various storytellers across Europe. arjunraj’s goal is to contribute to conversations about how the study and practice of storytelling in anthropology and the arts can open up possibilities for imagining more plural ways of seeing and being seen.
